Reef Check Australia Free Movie Screening - "BLUE"

Reef Check Australia is proud to support the Plastic Free July initiative by hosting a FREE, ALL AGES screening of the critically acclaimed documentary “BLUE” on Tuesday 30th July at Metro Arts' EPSON Lumen Room.

Single use plastic is one of the most pressing issues facing our marine environments today. It is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. There’s over 11 BILLION pieces of plastic debris on coral reefs in the Asia-Pacific region alone. It has devastating effects on our environment, wildlife and even our food chain!

The good news is, there’s something each of us can do about it. By making just a few changes to our daily routines, we can help protect our reefs, waterways and wildlife.

In the words of the filmmakers themselves, “BLUE takes us into their world where the story of our changing ocean is unfolding. We meet those who are defending habitats, campaigning for smarter fishing, combating marine pollution and fighting for the protection of keystone species. This feature documentary comes at a time when we are making critical decisions that will decide the legacy we leave for generations to come. BLUE shows us there is a way forward and the time to act is now.”

The documentary is rated PG, with mild themes. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. FREE popcorn will be available on the night – although we ask you bring your own containers and also your own drinks and snacks. Drinks and containers will not be available on the night. This is an alcohol free event.

Public transport is recommended as street parking is on a paying basis. Multi-level car parks are also located nearby.

Bookings are essential so please visit our Eventbrite page to reserve your spot today.

This event is proudly supported by Queensland Government Community Sustainability Action Grants.
