Our teams have been active on the Gold Coast for many years now, with both land and water based clean up activities in addition to long term reef health monitoring within the region since 2007.
More recently we have expanded our educational activities in the region, thanks to support from the Gold Coast City Council.
Reef Check Australia is the only program consistently documenting long-term reef health of the Gold Coast. Hence the RCA initiative can offer a valuable perspective on these reefs for long-term, cohesive studies.
Our goal is to continue providing important information on the health status for local council, natural resource managers and the wider community who cares about the amazing marine environment of the Gold Coast.
With over a decade of data, we have a strong link to the Gold Coast region and community.
Key achievements
In 2019, we not only expanded our in water team as we looked to grow the number of sites we monitor there, but also brought our ground breaking ambassador program to the region. This has meant we are now able to attend local events and introduce the ever popular Coast to Coral talk series to local residents.
