Empowering people to save our reefs and oceans

Are you? A PADI Advanced Open Water diver, or equivalent?

Have you? Logged over 25 dives?

Can you? Spare a long weekend?

Do you? Want to help save reefs?

If you can answer YES to all the above questions, enrol on one of our training courses today!

We currently offer part time or full-time courses in Townsville, Cairns, Port Douglas, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane a few tims a year. If you would like to become a dive volunteer, please fill out our Expression of Interest form

1.    Introduction & Methods

2.    Substrate ID

3.    Invertebrate & Impacts

4.    Fish

The first three modules are the core course, including classroom theory components and five to six dives. The costs associated with running this course, including professional instructors' fees, are $1495 per person. However, Reef Check Australia heavily subsidises these costs for our volunteer surveyors and offers the course for just $495 for modules 1-3. Once you have completed training modules 1-3, find out how to build on your skills and get invovled in our fish survey training courses (Module 4).

Our training is a fun way to meet new people interested in reef conservation, find out more about our beautiful reefs, improve your dive skills and actively get involved in scientific research. At the end of the course, you will be a fully qualified Reef Health Surveyor PADI Distinctive Specialty and a Reef Check EcoDiver certification.

NOTE: Future Reef Check SCUBA divers! Please read our dive requirements prior to signing up as a trainee! Our Reef Check surveyors have additional requirements beyond those for the course. This includes: AQF Rescue Diver certification, current gear service records for BCD and regulator and current AS2299 Occupational Dive Medical report. Please see our Dive Requirements page for details.
