Coast to Coral (Brisbane): Reconnecting People To Wild Places
Our Coast to Coral Community Lecture series is back for 2019! Join Reef Check Australia and friends at The Bearded Lady for an evening of discovery, inspiration and appreciation of our local marine, coastal and catchment environments. Each month we have a new, interesting and engaging speaker.
This month we'll hear from Dr Jimmy White and Paul North, who will share some of the exciting global applications and impacts of citizen science. They will introduce Meet the Ocean - a multimedia, educational non-profit that empowers a conservation mindset via storytelling, science communication, and creative interaction with its audiences. This promises to be an enthralling insight into the worldwide significance and outcomes of citizen science.
About the speakers:
Dr Jimmy White is a marine biologist whose background comprises conservation biology and fisheries management. Through his early research he was recognised as one of Tasmania’s Young Scientists and as a Qld Future Leader of Research. As Expedition Leader and Citizen Science Program Manager for Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic, he seeks to reconnect people with the natural world and inspire participation in hands-on scientific research experiences.
Paul North is an ocean educator who utilizes storytelling across media platforms to communicate the importance of marine science to the public. As founder of Meet the Ocean, his work aims to advance the methods of how science is communicated to the public, ultimately encouraging an urgency to understand, protect and advocate for the precious saltwater ecosystems of our planet.
