"Reef Check Australia has an impressive record of commitment to coral reef conservation. It provides an important avenue for meaningful community involvement in coral reef issues, monitoring, and conservation at both local and regional levels. Its track record reassures me that your ongoing support will be rewarded in very positive outcomes for the reef, and for all people who care about it." Dr. Terry Done, Scientist | Coral Reefs; Associate | Australian Institute of Marine Science
Conservation that works
Reef Check Australia is a not-for-profit environmental organisation that engages the Australian community in coral reef conservation at a unique level. We are part of a global network of volunteers who regularly monitor and report on reef health, bringing Citizen Science to environmental issues.
We aim to protect and help to rehabilitate Australia's valuable coral reefs through a successful recipe of
1) community education, to raise awareness of the key issues, and
2) scientific research, to collect data that contributes to solutions.
The power of the people
Our community of over 1500 Reef Check Australia members is growing by the day. Among these, over 200 volunteers have completed our fun training course and taken up their role as Reef Check Australia survey divers, collecting the data from important sites that other monitoring efforts don't reach.
Very soon, budding surface-surveyors can also get involved with our new REEFSearch program for all lovers of the reef.
