Our Champions

Empowering people to save our reefs and oceans

"The Coolgaree CDEP fully supports the implementation of Reef Check training on Palm Island which has been instrumental in heightening reef health and conservation awareness in the community. It is our hope that Reef Check Australia will receive the support necessary for the continued connection and expansion of its projects in indigenous coastal communities." Margaret Conway, Chairperson | Coolgaree CDEP, Palm Island

2012 Townsville Training TimeTable

Are you? A PADI Advanced Open Water diver, or equivalent?

Have you? Logged over 25 dives?

Can you? Spare a long weekend?

Do you? Want to help save coral reefs?

If you can answer YES to all the above questions, enrol on one of our training courses today!

We currently offer part time or full-time courses in Townsville, Cairns, Port Douglas, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane several times each year. Please contact surveys@reefcheckaustralia.org for more information.

Modules

  1. Introduction & Methods
  2. Substrate ID
  3. Invertebrate & Impacts
  4. Fish

The first three modules are the core course, including classroom theory components and six dives. The costs associated with running this course, including professional instructors' fees, are $1495 per person. However, Reef Check Australia heavily subsidises these costs for our volunteer surveyors and offers the course for just $495 for modules 1-3. Once you have completed training modules 1-3, find out how to build on your skills and get invovled in our fish survey training courses (Module 4).

Our training is a fun way to meet new people interested in reef conservation, find out more about our beautiful coral reefs, improve your dive skills and actively get involved in scientific research. At the end of the course, you will be a fully qualified RCA Coral Reef Surveyor and will also receive a PADI Coral Reef Survey Diver certification card.

Once you've completed the course, you'll be ready to join our teams of surveyors out there in the water, collecting the important data we need to protect and rehabilitate our coral reefs*.

In fact, the Reef Check Australia qualification is recognised by the Reef Check International global network, which allows you participate in survey expeditions at research sites all over the world!
