Reef Check Australia

Reef Check Gold Coast

Reef Check Australia’s Gold Coast project was initiated in late 2006 and funded by SEQ Catchments.

The inaugural Gold Coast Reef Check team were trained in the Sea World shark tank and have completed the first substrate, invertebrate/impact and fish surveys in 2007, despite unfavourable weather restricting access to some sites.  Sites include: Palm Beach Reef, the Gold Coast Seaway and Narrow Neck Reef.

The survey area includes the Gold Coast near-shore and artificial reefs.  These areas are of particular importance as their reef substrate conditions are largely unknown and the impacts of human activity have not been monitored.  It is important to determine the health of these reefs to ensure these valuable resources are maintained and impacts can be identified.

If you are interested to get involved check out our Training Program and contact Jonathan Werry at support@reefcheckaustralia.org.
