Australian Island Territories

Christmas Island

Christmas Island is located in the Indian Ocean at latitude 10°30' south and longitude 105°40' east. It is approximately 380 km south of Java Head at the southern entrance to the Sunda Strait approximately 1 350 km from Singapore and approximately 2 650 km from Perth. The nearest point of the Australian mainland is Northwest Cape which lies approximately 1 565 km to the south-east. The Island has an area of 135 sq. km.

Cocos (Keeling) Islands

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands are located in the Indian Ocean at latitude 12°10' south and longitude 96°52' east. They are 2 950 km north-west of Perth 3 700 km west of Darwin and 900 km south-west of Christmas Island. There are twenty-seven coral islands in the group with a total land area of approximately 14 sq. km.

Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is a small island in the Pacific Ocean 600 km east of the Australian mainland.

Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is a self governing Australian Territory situated in the South Pacific approximately 1,600km north-east of Sydney, 900 km north-east of Lord Howe Island and 1,100km north-west of Auckland. It is about 8 km long and 5 km wide with an area of 3,455 hectares.
