Photo Competition Prizes & Awards

The Overall Winner

The title of Reef Check Australia Photographer of the Year 2008 will be awarded to the photographer judged to have captured the most clearly communicated and memorable image from all the entries in the five categories. The overall winner will receive:

1. A 6-day, 6-night Osprey Reef Shark Encounter trip for 1 person worth $2215. The lucky winner will go to Osprey Reef and the Great Barrier Reef’s famous ribbon reefs on Undersea Explorer.

NB: This prize is valid between January and May, 2009. Please note the dive trip can only be redeemed in Port Douglas, the winner will be responsible for all costs getting to and from Undersea Explorer’s dock in Pt Douglas.

2. The Great Barrier Reef book by Steve Parish

Second Place

1) The entrant in second place will receive an amazing opportunity to go on a weekend sail dive trip to the GBR aboard one of New Horizon's magnificent yachts!


NB: (Please note the sail / dive trip can only be redeemed in Cairns, the winner will responsible for all costs getting to and from the New Horizon Reef Charter terminal).

2. A choice of 2 DVDs from the following selection: Coral Seas, Shark Tracker, Raine Island, Killer Jellyfish, World’s Worst Venom or Mystery of the Minkes by Australian Natural History Unit.

Third Place

The entrant in third place will receive:

1. An Underwater Photography Course by PADI Asia Pacific.

2. A choice of 2 DVDs from the following selection: Coral Seas, Shark Tracker, Raine Island, Killer Jellyfish, World’s Worst Venom or Mystery of the Minkes by Australian Natural History Unit.

Voter's Choice Prize

Reef Check Australia members have the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo during July to August, 2008. This prize is awarded to the most popular photo, as voted online.

The entrant who wins the Voter's Choice will receive:

Category Runners-Up

Category First Runners-Up will receive a dive mask. Oceanic masks were donated by Oceanic Australia, and 3 Mares Liquidskin X-vision Masks were donated by Cape Byron Imports.

Category Second Runners-Up will receive a selection of Quiksilver merchandise.

Young Photographers

All entrants will be asked to select their age category along with their submission.

Young Photographer Overall Winner
The title of Young Reef Check Australia Photographer of the Year 2008 will be awarded to the <18 photographer judged to have captured the most clearly communicated and memorable image from all the entries in the 5 categories. The overall winner will be awarded:

1. A special prize of a double Outer-Reef trip courtesy of SunSea Cruises in Townsville.

Please note this prize can only be redeemed in Townsville, the winner will need to obtain permission from their parent or guardian prior to the reef trip and will be responsible for all costs getting to and from the Sunferries terminal.

2. An Underwater Photography Course by PADI Asia Pacific.
